Lights and Fans

Lights and fans were very important to us. I love the feel of warm lighting inside when it's dark out, so cozy. Trying to sleep with a noisy fan or worse off, no fan, is horrible. And a fan in the kitchen is a must or else I start feeling very hot and frustrated while I'm cooking! We installed 4 fans and will probably throw in another one if we ever have some extra money laying around. We love the Caframo 12V cabin fans (just be prepared to put your hands in the blades about 1,000 times which doesn't hurt, but scares the shit of you).

We ordered these reading lights from Amazon for about $10. They are supposed to be for RV's which makes them way cheaper! Then we put these warm white LED bulbs in for $5.

And then we became obsessed with these LED strip lights. They are 5 meters long, warm white, waterproof, adhesive, and only $17! We originally ordered 1 and then went back and ordered 3 more. We've put each strand on a different switch so we can choose which ones to have on. Realistically, we'll only really use a few different ones, but having the option is great.

We ran a strip down each side that goes through the cabinets and under that peg board stuff. It lights up the kitchen cupboards, the closet, and the head! Easier than putting those little push lights in everything.

  1. LED Light strips are so fun! They were some of the first upgrades we installed on Tygress when we moved aboard, that and two Caframo fans. They give great light but they also totally glam up the place, my only regret (not shared by my husband) is that we didn't get the programmable colour changing ones!

    1. Lights and fans are so important! It does glam up the place and make it feel all cozy. We just added 1 more Caframo fan to the boat which is wonderful. Love those things. Haha, the color changing ones would be fun wouldn't they!

  2. We bought the 12v fans that plug into a cigarette lighter at Wal Mart for $12.97. They are cheap and easy to use but very loud. Are the Caframo fans whisper quiet? Were they easy to install?

    1. Well the Caframo fans are not whisper quiet by any means, but we like that b/c it creates a nice white noise to sleep to. They move tons of air and that's why we love them. They can get going fast and start to vibrate, but that's usually remedied by tightening the base. They are easy to wire in and most importantly they don't have a cage so they are easy to clean (also easy to put your fingers in, but it doesn't cut you only scares the life out of you!).
